I suggest that all of the extent capture software (and possibly the hardware) can be prone to hiccup or other error either when the screen res changes midstream (something I can't control) or when the broadcast video signal drops out even very briefly (something I can't control), as on a program change. However, I have started and stopped the device between recordings. All were rperfect: editable in VRD, proper timestamps, no need for QSF, no bungles. Since my previous email I have retrieved five more one-hour shows with Capture4ME. So I guess my advice would be either: 1) stop the recorder after each program or 2) if recording more that 1 program, QSF the file in VRD just to be sure. I sprung for the Capture4ME third-party software. There is freeware called NextPVR that is supposed to work with the PVR 2, but I just want to capture. It kinda works and likely works much better if you have a high-end video card, but it's not a solution to the problem of hinky capture software.
There are some instructional videos on YouTube. The PVR 2 merely sends the video to your monitor, and OBS captures what's on the screen(!). I found a very different and intriguing way to record via the PVR 2 using Open Broadcaster Software, which is a free system for streaming gameplay. I determined that ArcSort TotalMediaExtreme, which I used with the HD PVR 1, does not work with my PVR 2, at least not with the current drivers. I could only count on the first file actually existing unless I quit the app after each recording. This happened if I recorded something, stopped, recorded something else, stopped, etc. Over the weekend I had a frustrating couple of hours with Hauppauge Capture, not so much because of files requiring QSF but because of yielding a bunch of empty (zero-length) files.
